Norwich City vs Watford (0-2) 9th November 2019

Last Updated: 9th November 2019 14:44
Date Published: 9th November 2019 14:18
It is the battle of the bottom two and both sides will be looking to turn their luck around and start working their way back up the league and away from danger, but it is fair to say that this Watford side looks much stronger than the Norwich team, simply based on the quality of the players in their squad.

Norwich City
As for the starting line ups today, despite the fact that he has failed to score in his previous six appearances, Teemu Pukki is expected to lead the line again for Norwich today, hoping to rediscover that form which saw him score in his first six games of the season. Unfortunately for Pukki and the Norwich fans, he hasn’t looked like scoring since. You have to feel sorry for the Norwich defence as they have played fairly well so far this season, with the likes of Ben Godfrey and Alex Tettey putting in some strong performances so far. Unfortunately, Norwich have a lack of creativity in midfield, which has seen them struggle for chances in front of goal, while their lack of a decent holding midfielder has left them exposed at the back.

Watford
When it comes to the Watford starting line up you can guarantee that Ben Foster will start in goal, as he continues his great form which has led to some calling for him to get a return to the England setup. As well as that we are sure that Gerard Deulofeu will also start up top with his obvious class outshining the rest of the players around him. Meanwhile, Andre Gray will is likely to start from the bench again, looking to continue his supersub streak, while Troy Deeney is expected to return to the bench, giving Watford further options up front. With the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue in midfield, along with Craig Dawson and Craig Cathcart at the back, this Watford team should have the quality to not only win this match, but to finish much further up the league, clear of survival.

The Match at Carrow Road between Norwich City and Watford
It didn’t take long for the action to kick in, with none other than Gerard Deulofeu opening the scoring inside the first two minutes. Terrible defending from the Norwich midfield and backline allowed Deulofeu to come forward unchallenged before driving his shot into the back of the net. From then on, Norwich tried to force themselves back into the game, running the possession side of things, but as seems to be the case for them this season there was no real threat in the final third. Marco Steiperman barely had a touch of the ball for the hosts during his hour on the pitch and, when he did manage to see the ball he regularly failed to find a teammate, giving the ball away far to much. The arrival of Tom Cantwell to replace him livened up the Norwich attack and he laid a claim to a starting place in the next game, although there is not much else to get excited about with this Norwich side.

As for Watford, it was not surprising to see Deulofeu put in a man of the match performance, although Etienne Capoue gave him a close run for his money with a commanding performance in midfield. Roberto Pereyra had a quiet game up top for Watford before being forced off with a suspected injury on the half hour mark, allowing Andre Gray to once again push for a starting place in the next game, with his goal on 52 minutes doing no harm to his chances of forcing his way back into the first 11.

While Norwich tried hard to force something to happen, they clearly lack the quality to survive in this league and it is hard to see who they will be able to get in during the January transfer window who will make too much of a difference for their survival hopes. Watford, on the other hand, showed that they have the class in their side to fight their way out of a relegation battle and could finish in a mid table position come the end of the season.
